jothirteen: (sims)

After I posted that last entry, I started thinking about the Randoms' names, and realized that people who read my legacy might be curious about who are my legacy sims named after. This is a random legacy, so I name sims after book characters, movie characters, TV series characters, real life people, places, and...things. First name that pops into my head, basically. I stopped saying where did their names come from after gen H. So I wrote this, so that people won't have to read earlier chapters if they are curious about a name.

Adrian - named after Adrian Mole from Sue Townsend's books. I used to read them when I was a young teen.
Amyas - named after Amyas Crale, a character in Five Little Pigs, an Agatha Christie story
Aisha - named after a kind of Neopet. I still played Neopets when I started my legacy in 2006, I think (or had stopped playing it a while before).
Avalon - named after the Island of Avalon from Arthurian legends. I always loved the book Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley, so I knew I had to give this name to a sim.

Beryl - named after a character in another Agatha Christie book...sadly, I can't remember which one. I think the character was named Beryl Collins.
Bellatrix - named after Bellatrix Lestrange from the Harry Potter series. I decided she would be a villain when I gave her this name.
Baruch - named after a character in the last book of the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. If I remember correctly, he was an angel.

Chad - named after a minor character that appeared in an episode of Yvon of the Yukon, a very silly TV show that me and my siblings watched years ago. He was a guy that was always being told what to do.
Clarice - named by Mil (MythMil). When I told her Bellatrix was pregnant, she asked me if she could choose the name of the kid. If Clarice had been a boy, her name would have been Cedric.
Carin - this name was also suggested by Mil. Carin is her simself's granddaughter.
Carlos - named after my father. His personality was a parody of my father's personality.
Carol - named after another real life person, a friend of my sister's, that I have known for a long time.
Cira  - named after Cira Kale, the gen 2 heiress in the legacy my online friend Rachel/Hamhamluver4 (whose simself married Calvin Random) was writing at the time sim Cira was born.
Courage - Named after Courage the Cowardly Dog, from the Cartoon Network TV show with that name. I loved it when I was a kid.
Callina - named after a character in two of Marion Zimmer Bradley's books from the Darkover series, Heritage of Hastur and Sharra's Exile, Callina Lindir-Aillard.
Coryn - named after a character in another book from that series, Stormqueen!, Coryn Hastur.
Camilla - sort of named after my second cousin (whose name is Camila, the Portuguese version of the name).
Chiara - named after a sim I had when I played Sims 1. One of my favourites...

David - he was named after a guy that was in the same class as me in the first year of high school, I think. I was trying to come up with D names and his popped into my head.
Derek - named after a stick that Billy had in one episode of The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Yes, I know that is very random.
Dean - named after Dean Thomas from Harry Potter.
Devi - a name that I like. I might have seen it in a book, but I'm not sure.

Electra - a name that I love, and also the name of the daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra in Greek mythology. Her role and behaviour in the legacy has much to do with the origin of her name.
Emil - named after the Everglots' butler in the Tim Burton movie Corpse Bride.
Emily - named after the Corpse Bride herself from the same movie
Emergency and Error - just...yeah, what they mean. I wanted to give really awful/very random/stupid names to the children of Derek and Uhura, and that's what I came up with.

Finis - named after Finis Everglot, also from the Corpse Bride movie.
Ffion - a name suggested by Nathan (ChickenSensei). The F kids are/were his simself's kids. I couldn't come up with enough names for them, so I asked him for suggestions. Ffion is a Welsh name.
Felicia - also a name suggested by Nathan. A name used in many languages.
Fynn - a name I found in a names website.
Fabiana - another name from Nathan's list of names. A Portuguese, Brazilian and Spanish name.
Flippi - a name suggested by my sister. I think it was a book character's name, but I'm not sure.
Fish - what it means. She was originally going to be named Fire, but thankfully I changed my mind.

Gwen - named after Queen Gwenhwyfar (Guinevere) from Mists of Avalon.
Grizabella - named after the character from the musical CATS, one of my favourite musicals of all time.
Gabrielle - named after Gabrielle Solis from the TV series Desperate Housewives.
Gwydion - also named after a character in Mists of Avalon.

Haley - named after Haley, the daughter of Annabeth Chase in the TV series Close to Home.

Isaac - named after Isaac Mendez from the TV series Heroes.
Isabel - named after my mother.
Illyrie - a name that my sister found in a very old French dictionary. Apparently, it's the name of a place.
Pepca - a Slovene name that my sister found in a names website. It is the short form of the name Jožefa.

Fernando - named after the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, one of my idols, as my sister would say.
Fermina - named after a character in Gabriel García Márquez's book, Love in the Time of Cholera, Fermina Daza.

Kylie - named after a character in one of the many stories I invented when I was younger, Kylie Hertis.
Kyril - named after...yes, another character from the Darkover books, specifically from the book Stormqueen!. I can't remember the character's last name, though.
Gabriel - named after Sylar (aka Gabriel Gray) from the TV series Heroes.
Gina - named after Lala (LalaH16)'s mother - due to an amusing MSN conversation that took place around the time Gina the sim was born in game.

Fiyero - named after the character from the book Wicked, Fiyero Tigelaar.

Finbar - named after a character from Juliet Marillier's Sevenwaters trilogy, Finbar of Sevenwaters.

Lawrence - name chosen by Shannon, whose simself is Lawrence's mother.

Lliane - named after the main character from Jean-Louis Fetjaine's elven trilogy (in those books, Lliane is the queen of the high elves).

Lyle - name chosen by Lily (whose simself is Lyle's mother).
Helled - named after a very minor character in Jean-Louis Fetjaine's trilogy, Duchess Helled of Sorgalles. Actually, I only chose this name because it could be shortened to "Hell".
Light - named after the main character (Light Yagami) from my favourite manga/anime, Death Note.
Howl - named after the title character in Hayao Miyazaki's film, Howl's Moving Castle.
Kaito - honestly, I can't remember who is he named after. I only know this name was in my list of K names and wasn't chosen for any of the main gen K boys, so...
Lewis - named after still another character in the Darkover series, Lewis "Lew" Alton - the son of Kennard's namesake.
Frida - named after the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
Liir - named after another Wicked character, Liir Thropp.
Joker - named after Joker from Batman (I recently watched The Dark Knight).
Liam - named after the oldest brother of his father Finbar's namesake (character from the Sevenwaters trilogy), Lord Liam of Sevenwaters.
Manek - like his older siblings Irji and Nor, he's named after one of the actual Fiyero's children in Wicked - his middle child, Manek Tigelaar.
Fay - just a name that I like...and that begins with F. I was seriously running out of F names by that point.
Filipa - named after my sister, because I couldn't come up with more F names. So I asked her for suggestions.
Francine - named after the American Dad! character, Francine Smith. I used to love that show.
Flexo - named after the Futurama character. Because Futurama RULES.

Marta - name chosen by Lala (whose simself is Marta's mother). I think she is named after a real life friend of Lala's.

Lucy - just a name I liked. Though she could be considered to be named after Lucy Barker from Sweeney Todd, or Lucy Cole-Saxon from Doctor Who.

Melena - named after Melena Thropp, another character from Wicked.
Ichabod - no idea where his name came from...I guess it just popped into my head randomly.
Moville - named after Mosley Moville, the title character from the cartoon Moville Mysteries, which I loved when I was younger.
Muriel - named after Muriel Bagge from the cartoon Courage the Cowardly Dog.
Leander - a name that I liked and that I didn't get to use in gen L.
Marguerida - named after two characters in the Darkover series: the first one, Marguerida Scott, went by "Marjorie" instead and was the first love of Lewis' namesake. The other one, Marguerida "Marja" Alton, was Lewis Alton's daughter...who was also the half-niece of the first Marguerida. Yeah, I know, confusing.
Megan - I have been watching Family Guy quite a lot recently and I suppose this is Meg Griffin's actual name, so...not a very good omen for poor Megan Rodiek indeed.
Milo - a boy name starting with M that I happen to like.
Myrddin - the elven name of Merlin from Jean-Louis Fetjaine's books (the same ones where Lliane's namesake is from).
Mary-Sue - yes, named after the term everyone is familiar with. She does have violet eyes, like most Mary-Sues, after all. Coincidence?
Morgan - named after Morgan le Fay from the Arthurian legends.
Frederick - named after Frederick Williams, a character from Isabel Allende's Daughter of Fortune.

Nino - named after the character from the movie The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain.
Naomi - named after Naomi Misora from Death Note.

Martin - just yet another M boy name I like.
Nadine - named after Nadine Cross from Stephen King's The Stand.
Jezebel - named after the Two hours Traffic song. My sister used to listen to it a lot, so it was stuck in my head around the time Jezebel was born in game.
Nialla - named after a character from the book The Weed that Strings the Hangman's Bag, by Alan Bradley.
Niniane - named after the Mists of Avalon character. Her namesake was the half-sister to Morgause's.
Neil - just a N boy name I like. You can consider him named after Neil Gaiman, if you want, though, as I love his work.
Millicent - a M girl name I like. It was a choice between that and Melanie, which would be too similar to Melena.
Nuria - named after Nuria Monfort, a character from Carlos Ruiz Zafón's novel The Shadow of the Wind.
Neville - named after Neville Longbottom from the Harry Potter book series.
Nymeria - named after several characters from George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series (Nymeria the warrior queen, Nymeria the direwolf and Nymeria "Lady Nym" Sand).

Ker - named after a character in Jean-Louis Fetjaine's books.
Opal - named after Opalton "Opal" Wonglepong from Jo (joandsarah77)'s Fair Dinkum Flamingos OWBC (Jo's Opal being the grandmother of Opal the younger).

Orestes - named after the character from Greek mythology, the son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra (and brother to Electra, who was the namesake to ATOR Electra).
Orion - named after the character from Greek mythology (and constellation named after said character). It's a popular name for alien sims, and it started with an "O", so it was a favoured choice.
Oriana - this name was picked out of a list of Italian names at behindthename.com, since I couldn't come up with a name (only had boy names picked for Bernardo and Naomi's children at that point; she was their third daughter).
Oriza - named after a character from Stephen King's The Dark Tower series.
