I went and packaged my main legacy house from Randomville to get a copy of it in another (expendable) 'hood so that I could age the gen O twins to toddlers there. I needed to extract them for the ATOR Advent Calendar project I've been doing this month, and I can't play their original household in Randomville until they become toddlers - I've already played too far ahead as it is.
The thing is...well, I just feel bad for thinking this about these poor sims, but they look so...awkward compared to what other Randoms looked like at this age. I wonder if their parents' features just happened to mix in unfortunate ways with these two, and/or if it's just them looking worse in comparison to the usually very good-looking Randoms, and/or if it's just a temporary thing and they'll look better as they age.
Right now, it's a bit too late for me to get them aged up quickly in BodyShop to see what they'd look like as adults (I'll do that tomorrow).
So - this is what they looked like in BodyShop after I'd given them hairstyles, eyebrows and clothes I approved of. Do you think I'm being too harsh with the poor sim toddlers and that they'll just grow into it?

As a (minor?) point of comparison, this was what their father looked like as a toddler (sorry the pics aren't better, those were all I could find).

The eye 'mask' on the second toddler is a common occurrence and is usually outgrown. Not so sure about her chin though, that could get bigger. The first one looks rather sad, but I'm not at all sure on how she might turn out. I think she could go either way depending on her parents faces. A side on of her and her parents would help make judging easier. I have tons of Unfortunate looking sims, some started off looking unfortunate at toddlerhood and other only became that way on teening.

I know, I've seen it in many stories and pictures people post in forums...the thing is, it hasn't really happened with other Randoms at the toddler stage (or any life stage, really), so these poor girls would always look worse by comparison (which is likely the real "problem" here). I guess I was too lucky with adding simself genetics to the gene pool every generation before this generation came around.
The chin is not new, if you look closer, their father had it as well (and still does - that particular feature was introduced into the gene pool by the twins' grandfather, David's simself, and is still very much around).
Little Odette (the first twin) does look really sad, it's like she knows what I've been writing about her and her sister. But I'm sure I'll love them no matter how their features turn out, I always get very attached to (the great majority) of my Randoms.
I'll try to get pictures of their parents (their mother is Jessie's simself, by the way, the purple-eyed version) as well as their adult pictures on LJ as soon as possible (though that probably won't happen until Saturday or so, the next couple of days are going to be busy).

It's hard to tell with toddlers. Sometimes they grow into their faces, and sometimes they don't. On the other hand, I've had some attractive toddlers go al splodey-face when they hit Uni. My advice is to find a flattering hairstyle for them at each life stage and find things other than cuteness to love about them. :)

I know basing anything on what sims look like as toddlers is always a tricky business...but like I said to Jo above, I've been marrying simselves in every generation and the sims have turned out quite attractive (considering some simselves have very modified features that could mix oddly with the ones already in the gene pool). I guess I was just super lucky to have 14 generations of sims without any sort of major awkwardness at any life stage!
Aww, I'd never dislike these poor little Randoms because of their looks, I always get attached to most of them (the very few ones I didn't like that much were sims that got on my nerves constantly, nothing to do with looks whatsoever). :) I even mentioned I felt bad in the first place for thinking this about them.
I'll try to age them up in BodyShop and post pictures here on LJ as soon as I can (and pictures of their parents as well, as Jo suggested). That should be interesting.
