Hello, hello, to readers old and new! Welcome to chapter 4 of this crazy mess I like to call my OWBC.

Previously, on "Hark(er)! An OWBC": the eldest of the generation, Börje and Bruna, became teenagers, Börje being a super nice Family sim very much like his mother, and Bruna an increasingly frustrated Fortune sim. Nisha and Cody also welcomed child #5, Olenna. The younger twins, Olive and Oil, also joined their siblings in teen land, both rolling Romance and LTWs involving the number 20 as a possible desperate call for (my) attention. And sim Jo was downright unpleasant to everyone.

Oh, and about the title? Uhhh...yeah. Just wait and see.

"Seeing that we're both Romance, with opposite gender preferences, at that, do you know what we should do? Seduce everyone in the neighbourhood! I'll get the girls and you the boys! We'll get our LTWs in no time. Doesn't that sound awesome?"

"It could be fun...but what if one of us is the heiress, Oil? Whoever is chosen has to change aspiration, and spend the rest of their days eating nothing but grilled cheese, get married and have at least 3 kids! Then the previous romancer lifestyle could come back to bite us."

"You're no fun at all, Olive, you know that?"

"It's a lovely day, no one has stolen Glycogen yet for now, and my sister is an idiot! I, however, am not, so give me a hot girl to date, random matchmaker! Life is short!"

"Very well, then..."

"...here you go."

"A bit old for me, but whatever. I can keep it to just some flirting...for now."

That's right, Oil got Morella as a date. You might remember her from her cameo in chapter 1. Anyway, she has an even more unpleasant personality than sim Jo (0 nice points, for one), so this should be interesting.

And it's good to know her hatred for Cyd hasn't diminished one bit.

Wow, we have a definite winner here. 2 seconds after being dropped on the Harker lot, Morella goes and steals Glycogen. Nice going, Oil, you better go and steal him back later.

"Such insolent behaviour! Why, I never-"

"Damn it, she might be gorgeous, but stealing Glycogen was not cool at all!"

A sim with no nice points stealing the gnome, who could have seen that coming, huh, Oil? Shocking.

"Soooo...I'm Oil. You're Morella, right? I've heard of you. Though no one told me how beautiful you were! What's your zodiac sign, by the way?"

"Scorpio, dear. An infamous one, wouldn't you agree?"

"Well, yes, but I can't complain. I like bad girls."

While Oil tries her best to impress Morella, Olenna quietly grows up inside. And her clothes actually suit her, how cool is that? I'm still going to change them, though, I have some outfits I wanted to use.

"No photobooth woohoo, I'm afraid, maybe when I'm at college...but that's a neat pic of us, don't you think?"

"I've seen better."

A while later...

"You are a very rude young woman, Oil Harker! Falling asleep before our date is even over? Well, consider it over now! Goodnight!"

The classic Harker bad luck returns. Poor Oil, she must have been tired from her pre-chapter skilling. Better luck next time!

In case anyone was wondering, Cody and Nisha are still adorable together. And this picture of them slow dancing next to the fireflies, isn't it the cutest thing? I love this couple.

It's now time for classic Monday mornings with Bruna! (Not limited to Mondays.) Why are sims so clueless when left to their own devices? It's not like she can't get to the fridge.

Child spam! Here is Olenna in her new clothes, right after welcoming her father home from work. Cody and Nisha certainly had some cute kids.

Oil is taught to study (a bit late in life) by Nisha, who wasn't demoted or fired recently, for a change. Maybe her newfound skills will impress Morella in the future? Or any future dates? I'm sure she'll find some use for them.

Oh, joy, Cody has earned the Education career reward, bringing the grand total up to...two. *sigh*

At least this particular career reward is very useful when it comes to the kids' skills.

Nisha becomes an elder among a small explosion of confetti later the same day. She grew up platinum (thanks to recent dates with Cody), though she's not permaplatinum yet (she needs 6 grandchildren for that). So she should be around for quite a while still.

Also, as I'd been neglecting the Ghost Hunt mini-challenge, Cody asks victim #1, townie Dustin Donnelly, to move in. (What is it with these custom townies and their alliterative names? We already had Cody Crichton and Jacqueline Jackson, and now this guy.)

You won't see much more of him, so here are his stats: Pisces 5/3/7/3/7, Knowledge, LTW to max all skills, he joined the Harker household with a job on the Political career track (not that it matters), 13 skill points and 5000 simoleons.

"Olive, did you hear a weird noise during the night? It sounded like someone screaming for help. Weird, right?"

"Uhh...I didn't hear anything. Must have been a nightmare or something, Olenna."

What happened behind the scenes: I tried to kill Dustin via flies. It didn't work, and it made a horrible mess, complete with hundreds of roaches. So plain old death by starvation it was. A minute of silence for the sacrifice of this unfortunate townie.

Bruna! Get out of there already! Are you trying to get the flu or something?

Dustin's grave was eventually moved to the other side of the lot. And the Harkers now have a nice lake surrounding the place where future tombstones will come to join Dustin's. Let's hope it keeps the ghosts away, at least temporarily.

"Oh no, Jo is here again! This is going to be an awful party! Why couldn't have Mom have invited Yvonne instead?"

"Oil Harker! Your little romance antics are not amusing, and neither is your attitude! Your mother can and should invite me over for her parties, and you will show me some respect! Unless you want to end up as part of the collection of tombstones I need!"

"I hate my life."

You'll hate it even more soon, I think.

It's baffling how I never seem to get a burglar in my non-challenge households, but here she is. It must be some kind of Murphy's law, EAxis style.

Börje took it pretty hard, and woke up in the middle of the night to cry about it two or three times. Cheer up, at least she didn't take anything too important, like the few career rewards your father managed to get.

Bad things continue to happen the next day as in some sort of cartoon. Two townies that the kids brought over from school start a fight, to Ricky Cormier's horror.

They became enemies after this, I'll have to make sure they're not invited over at the same time again, or things will get very annoying very quickly.

Bruna spirals further into complete breakdown. Apparently, as I micromanage the other sims in the house, no one has felt like interacting with her (maybe because of the way she's been behaving lately?), and so we have an invisible Social Bunny around. At least she'll feel a bit better soon.

Cody joins his wife in elder land!

That hair colour and outfit need to go.

Look, a simself sighting! (That's Lily, the simself of [livejournal.com profile] lilyflower120) Though I doubt there's something worth taking in the Harkers' trash can, Lily, these guys are challenge sims with the worst luck ever.

Cody goes downtown to buy some new clothes, and meets the blonde Contessa (this version of her is named Contessa Stephanie Morrison). I'll have him call her every night so that they can become friends, as I'm going to need her further down the line for the Nightlife bonus.

Ladies and gentlemen, you can start applying the chapter title to this situation. Nisha was fired again due to an unlucky chance card. Which means she will never get a career reward now, as elder careers don't come with rewards.

Yes, I can almost hear that "wah-wah-wah" sound just about now.

And I didn't though that was possible, but that sound got even louder.

I told you I sucked at this challenge, but I think no one had figured out just how much until this moment, right? The Social Worker came for Olenna. (I can't remember her ever showing up in any of the OWBC stories I've read, this really is shameful.) I tried my best, but apparently she hadn't been doing her homework frequently enough. She was just 3 days away from teen! Definitely a table-flipping moment.

And in addition to all this, I felt so sorry for the whole Harker family! Especially Nisha, she was devastated. :( There's nothing I can do now, they can't even have more kids, as they're already elders.

I'm still counting Olenna for the Boolprop Naming Scheme total, since she got the "O" name, and was around for a while. But I lose 10 points for this regardless of that. Sad, sad moment.

Nisha slowly recovered during the next few days, and finished her novel. At least one good thing happened.

But what about Olenna, you ask? Are you going to leave her in the adoption pool for eternity? Are you going to let one of her adult siblings adopt her later on?

Answer: no. I could, but I want her to keep her family ties the way they are. So, I went to sim Jo's house, since I can use cheats there, boolpropped Olenna into her household, and aged her a couple of days to get her age to match what it was before she was taken.

Jo is sort of raising her now. She's no longer part of the challenge, and nothing she does from now on will give me points, but she'll be around. And don't worry, Jo isn't nearly as unpleasant towards her as she is towards the other Harkers. So it's a happy-ish ending.

The show must go on, and it's time for another party. (This is starting to get tiresome.)

Nisha had to invite Jo, just to ask her how Olenna was doing. She'll probably invite Olenna over for some of the parties after she becomes a teen, too. This time, Jo actually behaved a little bit better. It's good to know she doesn't quite have a heart of stone.

Meanwhile, Olive was getting to know the other party guest, a born in game sim, D.B. Montresor. (D.B. stands for Disgraced Boy. Yes, really. And you thought my sims couldn't get worse names than Oil Harker? Or Fish and House Random, whose names were mentioned a few chapters back? You were so wrong, good readers.)

D.B. acts pretty upbeat for a guy whose life is almost as bad as a challenge sim's. I think he feels better about himself after meeting the Harkers.

"Good news, everyone!"

"What are you talking about, Jo?"

"Well, not exactly good news, depending on who's listening. And not exactly 'good' to everyone. So, yeah, scratch that. Just news. While you were all depressed about the situation with Olenna, and your challenge life as a whole, the heir for the next generation was officially chosen!"

"What? You should have told us already! Who is it?"

"Why, she's right here! Hey Olive, guess what, you're the new heiress!"

"..."

"Would you look at that, she just burned whatever she was cooking. Best reaction to heirship ever. My work here for today is done."

"I don't even care about heirship or anything, I just want to get out of this house as soon as possible! And this has been yet another horrible birthday, yay me!"

"Bruna, calm down, it really wasn't that bad...the party was nice, at least?"

Yes, time's up for Börje and Bruna's teen years already. Both of them had Fs, and they were way too close to adulthood for me to be able to do anything about it, so they weren't able to go to college. I think this deserves another round of losing horns.

Olive and Oil's grades are also pretty low, but at least they still have some time to improve them.

"I hate being a Bad Apple! I hate living in this house, and I also hate that damn burglar who stole our things a while back! Happy freaking birthday to me!"

"Lovely, a pink outfit with a backpack, this day couldn't get any worse, really."

"I stand corrected."

"IwantoutIwantoutIwantoutIwantoutpleasetakemeawayfromhereplease..."

After a visit from the (invisible) therapist, Bruna feels a little bit better, and since I can give her up to 8 commands a day now, she gets new clothes. I kept her hair, though, because by now that hair is so associated with her in my head, I can't even picture her with a different one.

Her stats, you ask? I can take a peek at her personality now, and it says...Aries 8/8/4/3/6.

So yes, the neatness was obvious, and I was right about her being fairly nice too. She's...not very playful at all, so maybe she was swinging on the fridge door because she was bored that one time? She's very outgoing too, not much of a surprise, with her picking on the guests and all. I thought she was close to medium level in active before, and that was also close to the truth.

Börje gets a change of clothes and gets a job on the Science career track immediately afterwards. We really need more career rewards soon.

He also stargazes for a few hours, but like his father before him, no luck.

But hey, look, Börje does seem to be doing better, he and his father are now a duo of hard-working Family sims. You go, guys.

Bruna also gets a job (Culinary career track). She's a Fortune sim, remember, so hopefully the extra simoleons will give her an aspiration boost.

And yes, I'm using the Bad Apple for the Workaholics Anonymous mini-challenge. I don't know if that's against the rules, but I don't think I'm breaking any, since: a) I'm still giving her a maximum of 8 commands a day, and b) I don't need to see any of her stats or motives, only the career rewards panel (I can open it when controlling another sim, then switch over to Bruna, take the career reward and select another sim again. I'll even count that as one of her daily commands).

Life, and death, go on, and Cody asks victim #2, dormie Reese Baldwin, to move in. But he won't be dying just yet. Since any sim can help reach the Workaholics Anonymous goal, he'll be doing his share of the work too. Then he can die. (That really doesn't sound like a very nice reward for his efforts, I know. But mini-challenges are serious business in OWBC land.)

Reese is a Romance sim (LTW to woohoo with 20 sims), and a Libra 2/8/2/6/7. He originally had 10 skill points, and brought 11000 simoleons and 2 friends to the household.

He gets a job on the Athletic career track that very same night.

Our heiress is looking very smug, but I'm keeping an eye on her, and Reese will be working on his skills for a long time. I know very well that 2 Romance sims + ACR = potential trouble.

Bruna gets Fortune-themed PJs, because it amused me.

That night, Nisha reaches the top of her career. Which is nice, but it's still an elder career, so no rewards for this one. We still love you, though, Nisha.

The next day at noon, I notice that there are broken appliances around the house again, so I risk Oil's life in the process of fixing them. She is luckier than her mother, and doesn't get electrocuted.

There is a little twin bonding time...

...and then Olive and Oil are off to college.

With them are our second best gnome, Pheromone, and his small army of flamingos. Glycogen is still holding the fort at the main Harker lot with his significant larger flamingo army.

The twins go shop for clothes, because those wouldn't do, and look who Olive ran into...

"Hello there! I know you, you're Don the Zombie...well, without the zombie part. It's an honour to meet you!"

"Don? No, you must be mistaken, my name is Kai. Kai Truman. Nice to meet you...?"

"Olive Harker, OWBC heiress, and the pleasure is all mine, Don! I can't wait to tell my parents I met you, they're fans of yours too! Oh, you and your Grilled Cheese, you really are an inspiration. I'll have to switch to that aspiration too, so maybe you could give me some tips..."

"I'm sorry, Olive, but I told you, I'm Kai, not Don. And sadly, I don't know much about Grilled Cheese, really. But we can still be friends."

"And guess who I met here at Académie Le Tour, Mom, Don the Zombie! Yes, that one! Yes, I know! He said he wasn't Don, though, that his name was Kai or something. But it was still awesome to actually see him here."

After her enthusiasm over meeting "Don" wears off a bit, Olive calls the matchmaker so that she can go on a date and fulfil her part of the Nightlife bonus.

The matchmaker isn't too impressed with her lack of money, though.

Her date is one of the streakers. His name is Fergus Graves. (I didn't realize he was a streaker until later while playing, despite having played college sims at ALT many times before. Duh.)

They talk for a bit, and there might not be much chemistry there. But I don't mind, she needed to go on this date anyway, if it doesn't work out with Fergus, I can find her someone else to marry.

"Voooo Gerbits!"

"Uh, no, I don't think so. I don't actually go to college here, you know. In fact, I'm an adult, not a young adult like you."

"Awww, but that cheer is so much fun!"

"I'm just not a fan, sorry. Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go ahead and steal your gnome."

"What about a hug?"

"Nope. I'll be going on my way now. Goodbye, Olive."

"So he ended up leaving, and didn't even give me a hug. But that's okay, I don't mind. There are more guys around if Fergus is not interested. Besides, I'd never let all that upset me, I'm having such a great time here at ALT, I met Don the Zombie the other day, and look, that's Gage Uglacy's dad right there eating lunch! Cool!"

"Uhh...no, that's just Darryl Astor over there. And the guy you met is Kai Truman. He told you that, remember? You challenge sim types really are crazy."

As I kept playing Olive and Oil through college, I really started growing fond of Olive. No complaints about the choice of heiress here! She's just so adorable, look at that face.

Semesters went by, with nothing too eventful happening. Olive and Oil were so laid back about their studies, they kept going to finals wearing their PJs.

(And I was an idiot and forgot to take pictures of the majority of their parties here at ALT, only the graduation party is pictured later on. But oh well, you didn't miss much, those were boring house parties, with not even sim Jo around to add a little drama.)

I found Olive doing silly things and amusing herself very frequently...

...and Oil pretending she was throwing darts at me. Or at sim Jo. Or at all of the people that voted in my gen 1 heir polls (at LJ and Boolprop), but didn't cast a single vote for her.

Oil, it's better this way, really, you'll love the life of a spare.

And Olive's aspiration finally got low enough for me to go and stick her head in the ReNuYuSenso Orb with a cheesy result. Seriously, it took several semesters to get her in the green. I think the excitement over meeting "Don" gave her a long-lasting aspiration boost, Romance sim or not.

This is where I'll leave you readers, with Olive's newfound craving for that delicious grilled cheese.

Until next time, goodbye and happy simming to all!

Aaaargh, not the Social Worker!

I think the way you're using the Bad Apple to gain career rewards is perfectly fair.

The "Scrapbook" rules say that everyone who's ever lived in the house must have their portrait hung somewhere in the house. I'd interpret that to mean that the ghost-hunt-fodder need their portraits hung too, but the wording is ambiguous. Just thought I'd mention, because of the way I interpreted it -- you may interpret it differently, which is cool. :)

Fun times -- keep it up! o/\o

That was my worst OWBC moment so far, I thought I'd done enough to keep her from coming for Olenna, but apparently not. :( Oh well, at least Olenna is still around, and can always call her parents and siblings or visit. But I was seriously disappointed on my OWBC playing skills.

I didn't see a problem with it, but thought that maybe anyone more knowledgeable about the rules would read this and say it couldn't be. I stuck to my plan in game (as you know, I'm a little less than a generation ahead of the story there) and she ended up getting 2 of the career rewards. Those count for the total 20, unless someone tells me about a way in which Bruna getting career rewards broke any of the rules.

Their portraits are around, I've just not shown them in the chapters (I'm planning to show all of them when I finish the challenge, instead of in the middle of chapters.)
See? ;)

There's a picture of Reese around too, but I don't seem to have taken a picture of it.

Thank you, Esme! :D As I'm trying to get all chapters I have pictures for uploaded quickly, I might update again soon(-ish).

Olive is a great heir, her faces are great. Hiii Don/Kai the zombie! :D

That picture of Borje and Cody celebrating after work together is great.

Aww, poor you having Olenna taken away, but at least she gets a happy ending, and I'm sure we'll see her around at some point. :)

Good thinking using the ghost fodder to get the career rewards, they may as well earn their keep while they're there!

Olive has the best facial expressions of any sim in this neighbourhood, except for perhaps one of her daughters (who you'll meet in a couple of chapters). ;) I absolutely adore her, she's such a sweet sim.

I'll always think of that particular dormie as Don the Zombie after reading the Uglacy, no matter what name the current incarnation of him has. Same for Gage's dad, though not as much. And Olive does seem like someone who'd be a fan of Don, so I needed to have that scene with the two of them.

Börje and Cody really were two happy Family sims every time they came home from work together. Some great father-son moments there.

Olenna getting taken away led to a whole mix of emotions, all of them bad. At least she still has sim Jo there for her now, and she did call Cody, Nisha and her siblings every day (and made a few cameos at the main house) despite not living with them anymore. Plus, she had a better teenhood at Jo's lot than she'd have had at the Harker house, going by the two sets of twins' experiences.

Exactly! I couldn't use Dustin because he was an elder, but Reese and Donna? Absolutely fair game, they did end up earning three between the two of them, so not bad at all. :)

Thanks for the comment! :D

The falling asleep on her date was funny. Morella would make a good vampire.

Is Olive the heir? That will teach me to glance at other people's comments.

Hope Lily didn't give herself food poisoning.

Oh no, the SW! :( Really bad luck.

You can get the no age discrimination mod if you want elders to have adult jobs.

Lol Bruna's growing up was funny though. She is way nicer than I thought, it must have been the low aspiration.

You probably already have them, but I have Candi's main sism saved to Box. I grabbed them for anyone that wanted them before the exchange went down.

Olive will make a good heir. :)

Maybe I should go and make Morella a vampire, that's a pretty cool idea, Jo. :)

Yes, you might or not remember I reached a point in game where I could make the gen 1 poll - so I made it when I only had 1 chapter out (or no chapters out? can't remember that part) back in late October/early November. I even had trouble getting enough votes at Boolprop then, so you helped me by asking for some extra votes on your forum. Olive was chosen as heir after I added the votes from the 2 polls a while later.

Lily was fine, thankfully. :)

I was so upset over the Social Worker visit, you have no idea. :( Truly the low point of this OWBC so far.

It was only a problem at the beginning, eventually I managed to progress enough in the Workaholics Anonymous mini-challenge without needing to resort to elders having adult jobs. But thank you anyway, that mod might come in handy in other households/neighbourhoods...

Yes, that's what I thought too. She must have been having a really terrible day when she started annoying Danielle. ;) (She was the one to start it, not Danielle - and Danielle has 6 or 7 nice points as well, all that fighting had to be caused by low aspiration.)

I have Gage, Samara, and Rachel (the daughter Gage had with MythMil's simself). Also, one of the kids my simself had with her gen 9 co-heir (Morgana, she had a twin named Mitch, who I also had saved, but I can't seen to find him anymore). That's it though - which ones do you have around?

She has proved to be a great heir so far, I really have grown fond of her, she's a very sweet sim. :)

Thank you for the comment, Jo! :D

I do remember asking for votes, but I either forgot who won or didn't notice.

I would have been upset as well, especially as she was so close to becoming a teen. :( It's vital to get that homework done. I've even woken kids at 3am to get it done.

I have Boom Boom, Candi’s simself, Don, Gage, New and improved Samara, Queenie, Toasts simself and Uranium. So it's actually a mix of Candi's and Toast's sims in one folder. Not sure which version of Toasts simself that is.

It's OK, I didn't expect you to remember that, so I was trying to refresh your memory about it. :)

I tried to get her homework done, believe me. :( But apparently Olenna herself and her controllable siblings were all so miserable it wasn't enough. It was definitely one of my lowest moments in any TS2 challenge so far. I've never even seen a child get taken away by the SW in any of the OWBCs I've read.
The whole experience made me become extra careful when it comes to sim children's homework. I'll try to never let that happen again to any challenge children if I can.

So I think that between the two of us, we have all the sims Candi uploaded to the Exchange...or am I missing any? I don't remember any of her other heirs or spares being uploaded, but I might be mistaken, it was a long time ago...
I wonder if I have any of Toast's sims around - I don't think so, though. I know I definitely don't have her simself.

You know, a couple of months back I actually contacted DocNerd at Boolprop about creating a potential archive for sims that were in the Exchange and whose creators are no longer around (like hooptytrib's story archive, but for sims). She said that she'd contact ladylarkrune and rosefyre about it.
What other legacy/challenge sims from the TS2 exchange do you have? I'm sure that between everyone who's still around, we could get almost every one sim that those "retired" simmers had on the Exchange.

The easiest way to get fun up is a round or two of red hands after school and another round for the child who does the bad apples homework, after that they are good to go. :)

Uranium is Toasts sim as is Boom Boom. Apart from those I only have simselves. I don't normally download sims but when I knew the exchange was going down I thought those ones needed rescuing. I haven't seen DocNerds archive, that's good to know there is one.

From: [identity profile] seventeentheye.livejournal.com
Red hands, huh? I'll keep that in mind too for the generation (and possibly future challenges). ;)

Oh, OK, I thought you might have some more besides Toast's and Candi's (and their respective simselves). There isn't an actual archive yet, just possible plans for one. But I'm sure many of the people still around in the TS2 online community could contribute quite a lot of "lost" sims to such an archive. :)
